Women's Empowerment in Africa

When women arrive at the IMAGINE empowerment workshop, many carry grief, self-doubt, or the quiet belief that their dreams are meant to stay small. Through HAF’s trained facilitators and more than 230 IMAGINE workshops across Morocco, something begins to shift. Women find a safe, familiar space where their voices are honored and their stories are met with compassion.

Since the 2023 Al Haouz earthquake, these workshops have become even more vital. In villages across Imlil, Aghbar, and Talat-n-Mimoun, women have rebuilt confidence, strengthened community bonds, and designed practical projects that restore dignity and hope.

The change is visible in the women themselves.

Nearly every participant expresses a desire to take the next step toward livelihood training, literacy programs, or cooperative development. Their personal transformation becomes community transformation.

The IMAGINE workshops became a place where women could breathe, reflect, and begin seeing themselves with new possibilities. Each story was different, yet together they traced the same quiet truth. When women find space to heal and believe in their own strength, entire communities begin to change.

Habiba, a determined mother and small business owner in her 30s, came to the IMAGINE workshop carrying both hope and hesitation. She had already built a small online business, but stepping into her local market felt daunting, and the fear of failure held her back.

Through the workshop exercises, Habiba confronted the belief that she wasn’t good enough and embraced a new mindset: every entrepreneur starts somewhere. With this shift, she showcased her products at a local craft fair, gaining confidence, expanding her customer base, and opening doors for collaboration. Each success reinforced that every challenge is a chance to grow, and Habiba’s courage began to inspire those around her.

Khadija, who carried years of betrayal and loneliness, rediscovered trust by recognizing the support that had always surrounded her. She now speaks about her future with renewed hope.

Mahjouba entered the workshop feeling powerless and isolated. She left with confidence, a strong voice, and a renewed sense of agency.

Aicha learned to value herself and embrace self-care as a foundation for her growth and her family’s well-being.
