Encuentro Radio is a communications school for children, young people, and adults to produce their own digital radio programs and receive training in community communication. Our programming consists of approximately 25 different shows that feature interviews, analyses, workshops, dramatizations, and testimonies to lift up marginalized voices often missing in mass media with reflections on human rights, feminism, local culture, social change, and environmental justice.
Encuentro Radio captures the attention of an audience tired of consuming superficial audiovisual content from mass media that has been controlled by the same richest families in Colombia. There is a lack of objective and independent information that allows the population to learn about their rights as citizens. Indigenous, rural, and Afro-Colombian communities as well as other vulnerable populations and victims of Colombia's 80 years of political violence are missing from the conversation.
Encuentro Radio emerged as a means of intellectual and artistic development for marginalized populations. We work with grassroots communities to offer human rights education and communication media training. In the process, participants educate others through informative radio programming that shares their testimonies and ancestral knowledge, promoting human rights, peace, and reconciliation. On average, 1,300 monthly listeners tune in to learn from these diverse perspectives.
CEPALC's decades of experience has proven time and again that when young people receive education in their rights and training in practical communication skills, they are empowered to transform their lives and the future of their communities. Encuentro Radio audience members tune in from around the world to broaden their understanding and fortify their empathy and solidarity with marginalized populations.
