To date, over 2,400 menstrual health products have been distributed through our Reproductive Health Access Initiative that addresses reproductive health, contraception, teenage pregnancy, HIV awareness and girl's agency. In a recent poll, 30% of girls still report using rags or traditional methods during their period. Your support of this project will provide 400 girls, including those differently-abled, with a menstrual health training and the sanitary resources best suited for her!
Period poverty remains a significant challenge in Zambia, where many girls and young women struggle to access affordable menstrual products, safe sanitation facilities, and accurate menstrual health information. Rising prices and limited availability of products and inadequate water and sanitation infrastructure mean that far too many girls still rely on unsafe alternatives, increasing health risks, reinforcing stigma and contributing to school absenteeism.
The Reproductive Health Access Initiative will provide 400 girls with menstrual health and hygiene training and resources including reusable pads, a menstrual cup and period underwear. Girls and young women will be liberated from their period poverty while also being trained on important health information for their overall well-being.
The project will help end period poverty in Kafue, Zambia. Many factors from stigma to high prices of sanitary products to financial insecurity are major barriers for girls and young women to access the health services and sanitary products they need to end period poverty. The Reproductive Health Access Initiative seeks to empower one girl or young woman at a time with the resources and knowledge to end period poverty once and for all.
