Project Report | Feb 27, 2026
Wellness Club Mentorship and Form One Orientation

By Rustica Tembele | Project Leader

During this reporting period, our primary focus was sustaining student mental health engagement through ongoing mentorship of the Wellness Club and supporting student transition into secondary school.

Key Activities Completed

1) Wellness Club Mentorship and Continuity Support
We continued mentoring the Wellness Club, maintaining a consistent point of support for students and reinforcing the club’s role as a safe space for peer connection and wellbeing activities. This mentorship helped keep the club active even as staff capacity was limited due to academic demands.

2) Mental Health Welcome Talk for Form One Students
We delivered a mental health welcome talk to Form One students who joined Mashujaa Secondary School in January. The session introduced students to mental health and wellbeing concepts, normalized help-seeking, and provided an entry point for ongoing support through school-based structures like the Wellness Club.

Stakeholder Engagement and Feedback
The TEWWY team met with one of the teachers and the Second Master, to review progress and confirm continued commitment to the club. Both reaffirmed strong support for the Wellness Club and expressed readiness to continue with implementation. However, they shared that academic workload this term has been unusually heavy and has limited the time they can dedicate to club facilitation and administration.

The teacher noted that selection of the Wellness Club leadership is pending and will take place after the school completes selection of the school council. They plan to appoint the club leader soon after that process is finalized.

Challenges

  • Limited staff availability due to high academic workload, slowing planning and club leadership selection.
  • Club leadership transition pending, which delays routine scheduling and student-led coordination.
