Door-to-Door Iftar Distributions Continue in Urban Slum Areas of Karachi - Featuring Health Facilities

As Ramadan is quickly going by, our efforts towards the needy have been steady and earnest!  

Below, please find pictures of our Door-to-Door Iftar distribution efforts in urban slum regions of Karachi.  Featured are 100 Quarters Maternal and Child Health Center in Korangi, Karachi, Pakistan, the downtrodden inner city neighborhood of Sachal Goth, and our Zia Colony Hospital. 

Some more about our 100 Quarters MCHC:

HOPE debuted its 100 Quarters MCHC in Korangi 5 in March 2021.  It serves a vital role in a downtrodden region of Karachi.  On average, over 27,000 zakat-eligible mothers and children are treated per year for free/nominal cost.  Services include:

• Prenatal and maternal services
• Ultrasounds
• Normal deliveries
• IV drips for dehydration

Some more about Zia Colony Hospital:

HOPE’s Hospital in Zia Colony was built in 2002 and services Korangi district, a region in Karachi with a population of 70,000 people.  It is a 50 bedded hospital and the patients are mainly women or children, and many times victims of industrial or traffic accidents.  HOPE’s Hospital in Zia Colony is the only facility in the area which treats obstetric complications and emergencies.  Each year we treat approximately 200,000 cases.  Services provided include:

• Outpatient procedures
• Gynecologist
• 24/7 emergency services
• Orthopedics
• Vaccinations
• Normal deliveries
• Surgeries
• Neonatal facilities
• Prenatal and maternal services
• Diagnostic services (ultrasound, labs, etc.)

Below are our Door-to-Door Iftar distributions in Korangi 5, Sachal Goth, and Zia Colony.

•      Food Rations: Just $33 to provide a family of 8 with dry food rations to last a month

•      Door-to-Door Iftar:  Just $1/person provides a hand delivered meal to a person in need

•      Eid Clothes for Children: Just $17/Child for a New Eid Outfit

How Does HOPE USA Use Zakat and Sadaqa Funds?

• ZAKAT:

At HOPE USA we are committed to following the strictest Islamic guidelines for the use and disbursement of Zakat (Islamic alms) funds.  Our facilities such as Hospitals, Formal and Informal Schools, and Vocational Training Centers are located in underserved remote/rural villages in Pakistan and/or urban slum neighborhoods within Pakistan's major metropolitan areas.  All of our beneficiaries live at or below the poverty line and are Zakat-eligible.

HOPE USA uses Zakat funds year-round  to provide a multitude of poverty alleviation services to uplift underprivileged communities in Pakistan.  Zakat funds are used for programs in which the recipient retains ownership of the services and/or goods.  A vast majority of our services within Healthcare, Education, Vocational Training, Clean Water, Disaster Relief, and Ramadan Activities are Zakat-eligible, although there are exceptions.   

• SADAQA    

In a nutshell, Sadaqa funds fall into an umbrella category to facilitate any poverty alleviation purpose, which includes, but is not limited to, Zakat-eligible causes.  Specifically speaking, Sadaqa can also be used for purposes in which our beneficiaries cannot (due to the nature of the project) obtain ownership of the end-product as in the case of construction of a hospital, school, or vocational center, or the purchase of requisite equipment for these facilities.  In general, our Sadaqa funds are channeled towards the greatest need and are oftentimes used for Zakat-Eligible causes as well.
