This project aims to establish a network of community-based residential care homes that provide a nurturing environment for vulnerable children and their families in Taiwan. By intervening before a family's situation escalates to a high-risk or crisis level, we endeavour to prevent the breakdown of family structures and relationships. Through holistic support and education, we empower children and parents/caregivers to overcome challenges, rebuild familial bonds, and foster self-reliance.
In Taiwan, vulnerable families grappling with economic hardships, criminal acts, and caring for severely disabled children face increased risks of child neglect, abuse, flight from home, and delinquency. Ministry of Health and Welfare statistics reveal that, on average, 10 to 20 children per community suffer abuse-related deaths each year. Without intervention, these vulnerable youths risk disconnection from their families and communities, threatening their well-being and future opportunities.
By establishing residential care homes within communities, we aim to create a supportive environment that nurtures both children and their families. Children can reside in these homes, supported by MSM's network in partnership with the government and churches, while maintaining proximity to their familiar surroundings. Our trained social workers and church partners provide comprehensive care, including living guidance, character development, and educational support for children and caregivers.
This initiative helps rebuild functional family systems by addressing root causes and providing practical support. Children receive the care and resources they need to thrive, including nutritious meals, educational materials, and personal development opportunities. Parents/caregivers gain valuable parenting skills, access to support networks, and pathways to improve their circumstances.
