Hi friends, it’s Kirsten from Smart Villages and Peter from Kiima Foods, here with another update from the Mbata Smart-Agri Centre (SAC)!
We recently returned from a visit to Mbata, where we were checking in on both the SAC and installing some new connections to homes as part of another of our projects.
This trip saw more homes connected to electricity for the very first time using an innovative, low-cost method that we are trialling. It’s incredible to see the difference that access to power makes; helping families light their homes, charge phones, and begin exploring new opportunities. We’ve also connected more homes in the nearby village of Mukorokumi, and we hope to be able to continue to connect additional homes in both villages soon.
At the SAC, our focus was on maintenance and ensuring everything continues to run smoothly. Some equipment is currently under repair, and we’re working closely with local technicians to get it back up and running as soon as possible. As the SAC grows, so does the demand for power - which is a fantastic sign of progress! Local businesses are thriving, and the power demands at the SAC are high!
We also spent time reviewing performance data, cleaning up the site, and talking with the team about ways to improve day-to-day operations. We were especially happy to see how businesses like welding and entertainment services continue to grow, thanks to access to affordable and reliable power from the SAC.
The impact of the SAC is clear, not just in infrastructure, but in the energy and ambition of the Mbata community. We’re so proud to be working alongside them to build a brighter future.
With your support, we can continue the repairs and maintenance that improve the lives and prospects of farmers and entrepreneurs in Mbata. As always, feel free to share this project with friends, colleagues and family, and get in touch for more information or if you want to support in other ways!
Warm wishes,
The Smart Villages and Kiima Foods Team
