Farmers of the Future has kicked off strong this last quarter! Farmers from Phase 1 at Sasekile Garden have graduated to Phase 2 at Sunguti Farms. We have now recruited two new farmers to start Phase 1 to follow and agricultural curriculum.
For Phase 1, we have finished turning the soil, weeding and flattening the plots in Sasekile gardens and have separated and allocated the plots to the gardeners. We added manure and compost to the plots and we so far have planted 628 seedlings of tomato, spinach and onion.
In terms of project development it has been an exciting month! The Kruger team have had several meetings with the tribal council where they presented the project and what we need for project development, which is a plot of farmable land that is currently not being used. The great news is - they have agreed to give us a very large plot of land for Phase 2.
We are SO excited to kick start this new farm for Phase 2. The space will allow the farmers to sustainably grow their produce and also allow more participants to join in the future.
Be on the look out next week for the launch of our new fundraising campaign and a chance to win a free placement with African Impact! Thanks to everyone for supporting.
