Project Report | May 6, 2019
2019 is off with a great start!

By Morgan Domijan | Fundraising Manager

We kicked off the year on a high note, with enthusiastic farmers, volunteers, and partners ready for another year of learning, growing, and farming! In January, irrigation was installed and it is now up and running at the gardens! Additionally, we obtained the materials needed for the workshop room at Maripe Senior Secondary School and it is already in use. The farmers are making good use of it.

There has been an extra amount of rain in the area which has been amazing for the crops; resulting in a great future harvest. As the gardens are flourishing, the pumpkins and spinach have shown exponential growth so the next harvest should be very promising!

One of our close partners, the principal of the school where the gardens are located has retired. He has been such a great supporter of the work we do at Farmers of the Future and an all-around inspirational man. Demonstrating the strength and depth of our partnership, we and the volunteers celebrated his achievements at his retirement party, and reigned in a new chapter with a new principal. To celebrate, we planted more seedlings!

Our Foundation interns are doing an incredible job supporting the program by organising small and mid-sized local fundraising events, including a clothes sale from the community room and a daiquiri and games evening! Our volunteers are fully engaged with the program, even donating gardening materials, clothing, and other materials.

We are so inspired by the generosity of our donors and volunteers and the dedication of our farmers. Your contributions help create sustainable futures for our farmers!
