A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the Farmers of the Future project in The Greater Kruger region of South Africa!
Once a month we sell the vegetables from our training program at the Hoedspruit Farmers Market as part of the income generation component of the training. Last month we had a great harvest of spinach, onions and beetroot and had a great day of sales! As we come into summer and grow our number of trainees we can’t wait to see the seasons vegetables laid out for sale!
In the past few months, volunteers and students been hard at work planting moringa trees, a real super-food. Every part is edible and highly nutritious, providing seven times more vitamin C per gram than oranges and twice as much protein as yogurt! This plant will be a real benefit to our farmers and the community.
With exams coming up we only had 12 out of 70 students with us last week. The work doesn’t stop though and the planting still went on! We planted 10 different varieties of seeds and 20 Spekboom cuttings. There is a real energy in this group in students, we hope this is their enthusiasm for agriculture and not just spending time out of class!
As we continue to grow this incredible three phase training program, we look forward to seeing the impact that our future farmers have on their families and community members!
Thank you for making this project possible.
