A huge thank you to everyone who has donated to the Farmers of the Future program in the Greater Kruger Area of South Africa!
After 6 months of hard work and collaboration from the Social Development and Entrepreneurship interns we have completed the first edition of our Farmers of the Future business training manual. This part of the program takes 6 months for the participants to complete after which they graduate into the business incubator. We are all very excited for this year as we have 11 new participants ready to get started!
At one of our training properties, Nourish, we worked through our first lesson in the training module; Basic Business and Agro-Ecology and put our first plants in the ground.
Morogo (Moroho) refers to a variety of at least 3 leafy vegetables that grow in Southern Africa, also commonly known as African Spinach. One of the guidelines of Agro-Ecology is growing culturally appropriate food and climate resilient crops, so what better way to start than with some proper strong African Spinach!
Over the last week as our new training facility takes shape we put down our first seedlings. This is almost like cutting the ribbon as our first new plants take root. As we pass our midway summer point we can start to plant some African Spinach varieties. We have put Giant Spinach, Purple Morogo and Mustard Spinach in the ground.
Thank you for making this program possible and for empowering people to take a huge step towards creating a better future for themselves, their families, their communities, and the environment!
