On February 16, 2024 County of San Diego Department of Animal Services rescued a 25 year old gelding from neglect. He is emaciated. He has overgrown hooves, dental issues and undiagnosed lameness.
Given his medical issues and overall condition, we have been asked to take him in. Clearly this boy needs both appropriate feed and veterinary care. His sponsors have named him Duke, in honor of tehir beloved dog who passed away.
Duke arrived at the ranch on March 8. Soon after his arrival Dr. Harlan from East County Large and Small Animal Practice (ECLAP) examined him and preformed a dental float on him. This should make it easier for him to eat and help him gain weight. Many of his teeth are worn out, so pellets will be a big part of this fellow's diet.
Your support of our project, Feed 106 Horses allows us to take in horses like Duke and provide them the care they need now and throughout the days ahead. Thank you for making this life-saving work possible.
