On August 28, 2024 we welcomed two beautiful new faces to the ranch. County of San Diego Department of Animal Services took in two horses on August 14, 2024. Their owner was out of state receiving medical care and not coming back, leaving no one to care for them.
This bonded pair consists of a twenty-eight-year-old paint gelding and a twenty-year-old mare. The gelding initially needed to gain some weight and the mare needed to lose a few pounds. Both needed dental care and the mare's feet were terribly long. Since their arrival, their weights have both improved. Both received needed dental care and baseline x-rays. The gelding has terribly thin soles, but therapeutic boots have made him much more comfortable. We are also treating him for ulcers.
Our farrier is working to correct the mare’s overgrown feet safely, keeping her comfortable. Blood tests on the mare confirmed that she has metabolic syndrome and Cushing’s Disease. Daily medication and a rigid diet should help us keep her healthy.
Both of our newest residents have found a sponsor. As we write this update, we are waiting to hear the names that have been selected for them. We are so grateful for your support. Your generosity allows us to continue to provide a forever home for horses rescued by County of San Diego Department of Animal Services. Thank you for making their life with us possible.
