Turning Hunger Into Classroom Success

Executive Summary

During the last four months, Sheepcare Community Centre implemented a structured school feeding intervention targeting vulnerable children at risk of absenteeism and dropout due to food insecurity. The program provided consistent daily meals, resulting in measurable improvements in school attendance, concentration, and academic engagement.Corporate contributions enabled us to deliver direct, trackable impact aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2: (Zero Hunger and SDG 4: (Quality Education).

 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Direct Beneficiaries:

  • 480 children received daily nutritious meals for the entire school term.

Meals Served:

  •  A total of 120 meals served during the last two months .

  • Average of 2 meals per child per day we served; 10 O'clock porridge and Lunch.

Attendance Improvement:

  • School attendance improved from 68% to  89%, representing a 21% increase among participating children.

Dropout Prevention:

  • 0 recorded dropouts among program beneficiaries during this period.

Academic Engagement:

  • Teachers reported a significant increase in classroom participation and assignment completion.

Gender Distribution:

  • 252 girls

  • 228 boys

Cost Efficiency & Resource Utilization

The donations from our Donors on GlobalGiving platform through the campaigns we participated last year and the free will donations from donors who occassioanlly donated to our project on GlobalGiving were allocated as follows:

Food Procurement (maize, rice, beans, vegetables)- 65%
Cooking Fuel & Preparation- 20%
Food Storage & Hygiene Supplies- 10%
Program Monitoring & Coordination- 5%

Average cost per meal: $21.37 

Through bulk purchasing and community partnerships, we maintained cost efficiency while ensuring nutritional standards.

Impact Analysis

Educational Impact

Data collected through attendance registers and teacher assessments indicated:

  • Improved punctuality

  • Increased concentration span during morning lessons

  • Reduced fatigue-related absenteeism

  • Higher participation in class activities

Access to consistent nutrition has directly contributed to improved learning readiness and classroom engagement.

Social Impact

  • Reduced stigma among vulnerable children

  • Strengthened child protection through consistent school attendance

  • Enhanced parental engagement in children’s education

 Risk Management & Mitigation

Challenges Identified:

  • Rising food prices affecting procurement budgets

  • Increasing number of vulnerable children seeking enrollment

Mitigation Strategies:

  • Supplier negotiations for bulk discounts

  • Diversified sourcing of food supplies

  • Improved meal planning to maintain nutritional balance within budget

 Sustainability Strategy

To ensure long-term impact, Sheepcare Community Centre is:

  • Developing local food partnerships to stabilize supply chains

  • Exploring school-based kitchen gardens

  • Strengthening corporate CSR partnerships for predictable funding cycles

  • Implementing structured monitoring and evaluation tools for data-driven reporting

Corporate Social Responsibility Alignment

This project directly contributes to:

  • SDG 2 – Zero Hunger

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education

  • Improved community well-being and social equity

Corporate partners supporting this initiative demonstrate measurable social return through enhanced educational retention and improved child welfare outcomes.
