Food Aid for 500 Children in Distress in the DRC

1. Background and Rationale

Ongoing armed conflicts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo continue to place thousands of families in extreme vulnerability. Children are among the most affected. Limited access to sufficient and nutritious food has led to alarming levels of child malnutrition, seriously affecting their health, growth, and overall development.

According to data from the World Food Programme (WFP), food assistance remains a critical response in crisis-affected areas. In the DRC, conflict and economic instability have severely reduced food availability, making it increasingly difficult for families to meet their children’s nutritional needs. In response to this urgent situation, our organization has designed this project to provide both immediate and sustainable humanitarian assistance.

2. Overall Objective

To help reduce hunger and malnutrition among 500 vulnerable children by providing emergency food assistance and appropriate nutritional support.

3. Specific Objectives

Provide nutritious and balanced meals to targeted children
Improve children’s health and strengthen their immune systems
Prevent nutritional deficiencies through vitamins and supplements
Raise awareness among families and communities about healthy eating practices
Strengthen community resilience by supporting local food systems

4. Planned Key Activities

Meal distribution through school and community canteens
Deployment of mobile kitchens to reach remote and hard-to-access areas
Distribution of staple foods, proteins, fruits, and vegetables
Nutritional support through vitamins and supplements
Nutrition education sessions for families
Support for local livelihoods through community gardens and basic farming skills

5. Target Area and Beneficiaries

The project will be implemented in conflict-affected areas of eastern DRC. Direct beneficiaries are 500 children in distress, identified in close collaboration with local communities.

6. Project Status and Progress

Total project budget: USD 10,000
Funds raised to date: USD 125, through collaboration with GlobalGiving
The project is currently in the identification phase of trainers and learners
Project implementation is scheduled to begin in November 2025

Restoring Hope to 5,000 Children in Goma

Contexte humanitaire

La région de Goma, dans l'est de la République démocratique du Congo, est confrontée à une crise humanitaire d'une ampleur alarmante. Conflits armés, déplacements massifs, famine et extrême pauvreté ont laissé des milliers d'enfants sans soutien, sans abri et sans famille.

Ces enfants, démunis de tout, errent dans les rues à la recherche de nourriture. Certains sont contraints de creuser le sol dans l'espoir de trouver de quoi manger. Face à cette réalité insoutenable, une réponse urgente et structurée est nécessaire.

Notre mission

Ce projet vise à nourrir plus de 5 000 enfants vulnérables à Goma en créant des centres nutritionnels sûrs et accueillants. Ces centres fourniront non seulement des repas nutritifs, mais aussi un soutien médical, psychologique et éducatif.

Grâce à cette initiative, nous offrons plus que de la nourriture : nous redonnons espoir, dignité et la possibilité d’un avenir meilleur.

Objectifs spécifiques

Construire et équiper des centres nutritionnels dans plusieurs quartiers ciblés de Goma.
Fournir quotidiennement des repas nutritifs à 5 000 enfants dans le besoin.
Assurer un soutien psychosocial et des soins médicaux de base avec l'aide de bénévoles et de professionnels.
Identifier les enfants les plus vulnérables grâce à un travail de terrain coordonné avec les autorités locales et les organisations partenaires.
À moyen terme, élargir les services pour inclure l’éducation, les soins de santé et la réinsertion familiale.

Feeding 500 Vulnerable Children in DRC

1. Introduction

Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is plagued by armed conflict, leaving thousands of children in urgent need of food assistance. This project aims to deliver emergency food aid to 500 vulnerable children, combatting severe malnutrition, improving their health, and giving them hope for a better future.

2. Humanitarian Context

According to the FAIS database of the World Food Programme (WFP), food aid flows are essential in crisis-affected areas. In the DRC, ongoing insecurity and economic instability prevent many families from feeding their children adequately. As a result, children suffer from malnutrition, which stunts growth, weakens immune systems, and threatens their development.

3. Project Objectives

Provide immediate food assistance to 500 malnourished children
Improve overall child health with balanced nutrition
Set up school canteens and mobile kitchens
Distribute vitamins and nutritional supplements
