When you're running a charity, you learn quickly how to make every penny count. We're always focused on getting the best value for your donated money—because every donation is a privilege, and we want it to stretch as far as possible.
But this week, we took a step back and asked: What if joy mattered just as much as the numbers?
At one of the 8 early childhood schools we support in South Africa, our dedicated team feeds 40 children every month—usually on just $160 for the whole month. But the meals? They’re basic. Nutritious, yes—but repetitive. This week, lunch was plain pap again (imagine eating plain rice every day).
So we tried something different.
We took the team shopping and said: “What do we need to make the children smile this month?” No calculators. No strict list. Just heart.
We added fresh vegetables, chicken, cereals, milk, sauces… Suddenly the meals weren’t just filling—they were exciting. And the difference? Just £75 more.
For just a bit extra, we transformed the children's daily meals from survival to celebration. Their laughter at lunch told us everything.
Now imagine that impact—multiplied across all 8 schools we support.
