RICHARD P. GARMANY GRADUATES FIRST COHORT USING A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED HBI PACT CURRICULUM

By Rich Carman | Development

Fresh Start Worx is always in a state of continual improvement. At the Fresh Start Worx's Richard P. Garmany Academy change is always centered on improving the training experience for our students and post graduate opportunities. For multiple years the Fresh Start team crafted in house curriculum that was based on a variety of existing coursework that were important to the construction and carpentry industry but knew that our graduates needed a nationally recognized credential to increase job placement. We spoke with partners at the Home Builders and Remodelers Association and a solution was created.
We are pleased to share with our friends and donors that the first students trained under our new certification Curriculum have graduated. Please read more about these exciting changes below.
HBI PACT CORE PARTNERSHIP
The HBI PACT CORE program is a nationally recognized pre-apprenticeship training curriculum designed to equip students with essential skills for careers in the building trades. It provides vocational and academic training, covering areas such as life skills, career development, and hands-on training.
The program is structured around STEM education and aligns with NAHB’s Green Building Standard™ and National Skills Standards. At Fresh Start Worx, this program is taught in both a classroom and shop setting, allowing students to gain practical experience in a controlled environment. Each cohort consists of 6 to 12 students, ensuring individualized attention and a supportive learning experience.
The curriculum includes:
  • HBI certified instructor
  • Data driven certification process for measuring progress towards student success and graduation.
  • Classroom and shop floor hands experience using high quality equipment with a focus on safety.
  • Access to an online learning management systems
  • Designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the construction industry.
Since incorporating this new curriculum we have seen increased graduation and employment rates with our graduates.
