Thank You for Supporting Youth Theatre for Change in Zambia
Thank you to everyone who supported YOCUPA’s youth-led theatre project, House of War: House of Glass, through GlobalGiving. Together, 14 donors raised $5,480 toward our $7,000 goal, a strong show of support that made this powerful production possible. While we did not reach the full goal, the funds raised played a critical role in bringing this project to life and amplifying youth voices on issues that are often silenced.
We are now formally closing this GlobalGiving project and are deeply grateful for every contribution that helped make it a success.
What Your Support Made Possible
With support from GRACE Cares and GlobalGiving donors, YOCUPA spent three months developing and producing House of War: House of Glass, a youth-led theatre production addressing sexual violence, child abuse, environmental harm, and peaceful coexistence.
22 young artists were trained in acting, stage movement, voice projection, and theatre management, many performing on stage for the first time
The production was co-directed by local Zambian directors and GRACE Cares partners
The play premiered on July 25, 2025 at the Italian Cultural Centre, reaching approximately 300 audience members
Performances continued at the National Arts Council’s Kwimbo Festival and at Matero Girls Secondary School, where 600 students watched the production
The performances sparked open dialogue around abuse, safety, and youth empowerment, important when stigma often prevents these conversations from happening at all.
Beyond the Stage: Building Youth Leadership
The theatre production was part of a broader youth engagement effort. Following performances, YOCUPA trained 22 students from Matero Girls Secondary School in trauma management, eCPR (emotional CPR), and sexual abuse prevention, certifying them as peer advocates. These youth leaders are now better equipped to support their peers and continue conversations about protection and healing in their schools and communities.
Thank You and How to Stay Involved
Your generosity helped young people in Zambia use creativity and storytelling to challenge violence, educate communities, and advocate for safer futures. We are incredibly grateful for your belief in youth-led change.
