Girl's Club Programming Thriving
Our girls’ club programme occurs on a weekly basis throughout the year aiding with the development of girls, aged five (5) to twenty-one (21), through non-traditional teachings, dramatherapy and mentorship that helps to contribute to their life and academic excellence. This programme is currently conducted on Saturdays.
On the 3rd May this year, we kicked off Term 3 of the Girls’ Club, featuring a dynamic lineup of topics including:
This term also saw an increase in the number of registered mentees, with one new enrolment in the 5–10 age group and six in the 11–17 age group, resulting in a rise in overall participation from Q1 to Q2.
Financial Literacy Is Paramount
Guided by our core philosophy of empowering girls to seize control of their futures and nurturing leadership skills to surmount obstacles, I Am A Girl NGO hosted our annual Financial Literacy Workshop during May 2025, under the theme:
“Breaking Barriers, Building Wealth: Empowering Girls for a Financially Smart Future”
The event brought together prominent figures from the financial sector to lead mentorship sessions focused on financial literacy and wealth-building with participating girls. Designed to empower and mentor fifty (50) girls across Barbados between the ages 15 to 18, this workshop equipped participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills to understand key financial concepts. It created a supportive environment that fostered financial independence, confidence, and resilience as the girls prepare to transition into adulthood.
What Have We Discovered?
Overall we are seeing that the need for support, while having a slight drop, is still showcasing concern:
67% of our girls still require educational support at different levels.
60% represents the food and hygiene need, due to lack of funds to sustain the household.
40% of our girls are currently attaining mental wellness counselling. However, what we have also discovered is that due to pride and not wanting to be labels for needing help, the need for girls is at least 25% higher.
87% of our girls are actively engaged with mentors, who are guiding their progress.
This progress would not be possible without you. Thank you!
