Aligned With the UN SDGs

By Carly Kruyer | Founder

Do you know, Eyes of Africa aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

We are a humanitarian organisation committed to improving children’s vision health across Africa, with a focus on underserved and vulnerable communities. Our mission - ensuring that every child has the right to see clearly and learn without limitation - aligns closely with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those addressing health, education, equality, and poverty reduction.

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being

Eyes of Africa advances SDG 3 by tackling preventable visual impairment through eye screenings, diagnosis, and provision of corrective glasses. These efforts help prevent avoidable blindness and improve the overall well-being and development of children. Clear vision enables children to engage fully in daily activities, enhancing both physical and mental health.

SDG 4: Quality Education

By ensuring that poor eyesight does not hinder learning, Eyes of Africa directly supports SDG 4. Correcting vision problems allows children to perform better in school, improving reading, focus, and confidence. This leads to higher academic achievement and promotes lifelong learning opportunities.

SDG 1: No Poverty

Poor vision limits education and future employment prospects. By improving sight, Eyes of Africa empowers children with the ability to learn and eventually earn, breaking cycles of poverty linked to poor health and limited opportunity.

SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

We work with children in disadvantaged and rural areas, providing free or affordable vision care to those who need it most. This directly contributes to reducing inequality in access to healthcare and education.

SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Through collaboration with schools, communities, and corporate partners, Eyes of Africa strengthens partnerships that advance sustainable development.

In essence, Eyes of Africa exemplifies the SDGs in action — transforming lives through the simple yet powerful act of restoring sight.
