This projects aims to estabilish a fully equipped Radiology Department in our existent Pediatric Hospital in Hargeisa. MedAcross plans 1) to BUILD an additionary hospital pavilion, which will be dedicated exclusively to the Radiology Department; 2) to ACQUIRE all necessary equipment (Ultrasound Machines, X-ray Machines, CAT Scanners...)
Founded between 2011 and 2012 after the complications of the 2010's famine in Somaliland, the Pediatric Hospital of Hargeisa has since helped almost 200.000 children, saving thousands of lives. The structure welcomes children from all over Somaliland as well as parts of Somalia and northern Ethiopia. It now has 48 beds and employs a total of 70 workers (doctors, nurses and cleaners), but it lacks the necessary tools for proper diagnostic investigations and consequent treatment of complex cases.
Building a new Radiology department will help thousands of children receive accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. It will also support the regular activities of visiting surgeons from Europe. The project involves constructing a small pavilion and purchasing essential equipment, including Ultrasound machines, X-ray machines, and a used CT scanner.
This project will help employ and train additional medical staff, while also enabling the possibility of recurring -not sporadic- surgical activities. The ultimate goal is to be able to treat 30.000 children each year in the emergency room and perform 200 complex surgeries annually.
