Give second chance for 100 rescue animals in India

When Nero was found, his face was covered in maggots, and their insidious presence had taken a devastating toll. Half of his face had been consumed, leaving him in excruciating pain and facing immense challenges on the unforgiving streets. After over five months of dedicated wound management, Nero's injuries had mostly healed, except for the delicate region surrounding his eye, requiring a flap procedure. Today, we are overjoyed to announce that he is no longer vulnerable to infections, and the happy boy has joined as a permanent member of our sanctuary. Transformations like Nero's have been made possible only with your timely donation, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This September, in celebration of World Rabies Day on the 28th, we vaccinated street, community, and pet dogs against rabies throughout the month, achieving a total of 1,400 vaccinations—each saving a life. Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this possible.

October featured many successful adoptions, and it was uplifting to see children leading fundraising efforts through fun activities like 'Paint with Paws.' Several volunteering events were held during these months, with students dedicating their efforts to creating safer environments for our rescue pets.

Dear friends,

The last two months went by swiftly with a furore of activities that kept us on our toes. There were several new additions to the sanctuary as we doubled down on rescue efforts. Many "hurt-to-healed" stories gave us heart-warming moments. 

Can you imagine the agony of a fractured jaw for an animal living on the streets with no pain-relief and no hope of healing? Thankfully, Jyothi was rescued and brought to us; but weak and frustrated, she snapped at us out of pain and fear. Following a lengthy and delicate surgical procedure to repair her jaw, Jyothi's fears began to fade as quickly as her pain, and it didn't take much time before she became a cuddle-bug. Now healed and back to her familiar territory, it was indeed a gratifying moment for our whole team.

Life of a street dog in India is very tough—hungry, unwanted, and exposed to a disease that is 100% fatal and putting entire communities at risk. We are commemorating the month of September as the Rabies Awareness month highlighting why and how the deadly disease of Rabies in 100% preventable through timely vaccinations. As preparation for this, we have conducted several out-reach sessions and workshops, teaching children how to understand the body language of dogs and how to avoid dog-bites. 

The Rabies surveillance has picked up full steam with a steady flow of calls arriving on our hotline. Thanks to the generous donations received from you, we touched more than 3000 lives during this time, whether it was a life-savng surgery, or a vaccination against the deadly Rabies inching us closer to our vision of a Rabies-free Coimbatore.

This September, on the suspices of the World Rabies Day celebrated all over the world on the 28th, we have a chance to turn fear into hope, as we plan to conduct several vaccination campaigns in different parts of the city.
