Open this door with the families of Gaza-step into a real house with a waterproof roof, lighting, thick walls, a foundation, tiled floor, a kitchen, windows, and indoor plumbing! Located in Gaza City, our prototype took 14 days to build, 60cm at a time. We ask your help to plan and build groups of 30 homes including some storefronts using repurposed-rubble following environmental testing to ensure low-risk, healthy construction. Help build Gaza Baytna (Our Home) Gaza Neighborhoods.
In Gaza, nearly two million people were forced to leave their homes, living in tents now in winter rain. Wind tears through the fabric, rain and sewage flood the ground. Winter is here. They need dry, warm homes. Over 60 million tonnes of debris is waiting to be cleared in Gaza. Much is contaminated. Clearing will take >15 years. Instead, we can use any uncontaminated rubble for construction- sort, separate, test with UN assistance, resize uncontaminated debris to build starter homes & shops.
The work begins with UN clearing booby-traps and mines. Our teams will collect low-risk rubble while builders dig foundations. Rubble will be packed into wooden forms 60cm high, all the way around. Small amounts of cement seal the gaps, turning ruins into strength. Then the next layer, filling forms up through the arches. Remove forms, paint, tile, and garden. We built one prototype so far. We ask your help to plan and build 30 homes at a time engaging Gaza's families in construction.
Please help to restore a sense of stability after devastating loss. The Gaza Baytna (Gaza Our Home) Neighborhoods will create construction jobs, reconnecting families in planning and construction, opening a place for small shops, and giving children a better place to grow up with secure walls around them. Eventually when families move out to the home of their dreams, these strong buildings will become shops, offices, clinics, kindergartens- a testament to Gaza's renaissance.
