Gender Based Violence and Femicide has been declared a national pandemic by President Cyril Ramaphosa. This is because during the lockdown we have seen a spike in domestic violence across the country but especially in Alexandra.
This is a shocking reality for South Africans in general but specifically for the more vulnerable such as women and children. They suffer and die in silence as a result of a lack of information.
As Rays of Hope, we regard this as a dark cloud hanging over our heads. For that reason we took to the streets and rallied the community to join us and be a Ray of Hope shining their light against GBVF.
Thanks to your partnership and others, we now have a GBV-specific social worker and co-ordinator making sure that the people of Alexandra know how to stand up and fight!
