We are very excited to share with you the news that our schools initiative has started with six of the schools in Alexandra, Johannesburg. In our last report, we shared that we were aiming to become more proactive with regard to Gender-Based Violence so we have started what we are calling #CatchThemYoung, which is a programme that we are rolling into schools, educating the young people on GBV, bullying, anger management, sexuality and more. The goal of this programme is to educate the young people so that they know that the behaviour that they see from the adults around them is not normal and that they don't need to repeat the same behaviours, now that they know better.
We can only start with a grade at a time, but the plan is to roll the programme out to more grades in more schools in the coming few years.
If young people can learn at any early age not to think that handling problems with violence is right, or having sexual relations with a minor is okay, then we should be able to significantly reduce the impact that these negative behaviours are having on the community of Alexandra.
We are grateful to partners such as you, via GlobalGiving, who support our work and partner with us in these very important behaviour changing activities.
Thank you once again!
Kind regards,
Tracey
