We aim to inspire 60 underprivileged girls in Masiphumelele, South Africa, through rugby-building confidence, promoting gender equality, and teaching leadership and teamwork skills that last a lifetime. Girl Power introduces rugby to children from a underprivileged township of Masiphumelele. The program offers training, mentoring, and life-skills to childre. Through sport, girls build confidence, leadership, and resilience while challenging gender norms and accessing new opportunities.
Children in Masiphumelele face poverty, gender inequality, and few chances to engage in sport. Without safe spaces to be active, learn, and grow, many children lack confidence and miss out on life-changing opportunities. Access to sport not only supports physical health and learning but also helps break the cycle of poverty by fostering resilience, teamwork, and ambition from a young age.
Providing a safe space for children to play rugby at school supports physical and emotional development. Sport enhances learning, builds confidence, reduces bullying, and promotes teamwork. Life-skills sessions strengthen resilience, while inter-school matches create a wider network for change. In a community with few opportunities, this program offers girls a rare and powerful chance to thrive-unlocking their potential to break cycles of poverty and inequality.
Girl Power will inspire a new generation of confident female leaders who challenge gender norms and drive social change. As girls stay in school, develop skills, and gain visibility in sport, community attitudes will shift toward equality. This program creates a sustainable model that can expand to other townships, helping break cycles of poverty and empowering more girls across Africa to realize their full potential.
