As part of the Fly The Phoenix Seven Continent Charity Challenge on Saturday 6th June, the communities themselves will be undertaking events to raise awareness and funds. In Honduras our local teachers, students and families will be hiking to the nine communities who currently send students to our Phoenix College. Please sponsor the communities as we strive to move towards sustainability over the next few years by donating to this page.
Such a busy few months it is hard to know where to start though possibly the best news was that the 2014 national college results were published and our Phoenix College was well above the national average in spanish language (80% compared to 60%) and maths (80% compared to 40%). Thank you to everyone who supports us to be able to pay our teachers' salaries and influence such incredible results.
School government elections were held whereby the students vote for their fellow students to form a collective body - lots of fun though the swearing-in ceremony was a serious affair! Mother's Day was celebrated and one of our sustainable plans, Plan Tilapia (fish) is showing brilliant signs of progress with the first harvest due in June. Our teachers' assistants are doing brilliant work in the classes; they are current Phoenix College students who we pay to come in the morning to help out in the primary school - we also help them with their university costs.
Thank you all for your support and please do sponsor the community as they take on their hike on 6th June. Cheers
