The students in the Phoenix College have been extremely busy these past three months, incorporating practical work with their studies, whilst also doing an exam or ten! As part of the global Day of the Tree, they planted over 1,000 trees in areas gutted by deforestation. The Plan Café seed nursery has been a massive success with over 2,500 new coffee seedlings transplanted into their bags and doubling the size of the plantation. Plan Café is a Phoenix sustainable income plan which helps to cover all graduation costs. They have also been busy in recycling projects, turning old tires into vegetable gardens.
Whilst education is important, the key is the availability of jobs at the end of it. Not a problem with the Phoenix college where the students graduate in Sustainable Rural Development. Since the first graduation in 2014, 32 of the 35 graduates from the Phoenix College now have full-time jobs with various NGO’s – the other three graduates we employ as teachers in the primary school.
We want to increase our sustainable plans for the students and their families as we are seeing how beneficial they are and to make this goal a real possibility, here is some excellent charitable news from GlobalGiving who have $110,000 to match donations by 50% from 9am EDT on Wednesday 12th July whilst funds last!
