South Africa is gripped in a Gender Based Violence and Femicide pandemic. In one year, more than 5 500 women were murdered. The rate is 6% higher than the global average. Family life is severely disrupted as children are equally vulnerable and suffer at the hands of perpetrators. It is very sad to note that the perpetrators are known to their victims, sometimes living in the same house.
HOPE Africa's Gender Based Violence and Femicide awareness programme aims to raise awareness in parishes and communities with the aim of drastically reducing the number of GBVF cases. This year alone, we reached out to over 700 individuals in parishes and communities. For the upcoming 16 Days of Activism - from 25 November to 10 December, all Dioceses will roll out action such as the red chair campaign, marches, placard demonstrations and talks on how the church can become involved in fighting GBVF. The aim is to reach more than 10 000 people
We have supported several children's homes and shelters for abused women through visits and distributing toiletry care packs, clothing and food. We thank you once again for your contributions that enabled us to reach 700 individuals directly this year and a further 10 000 indirectly before the end of the year.
God bless.
