Toby's Story!

By Cheryl Martin | Country Director

Dear Supporters,

This year HART has begun the task of neutering and vaccination the rural areas of the Pokhara- Leknath region. HART sent out an alert via facebook that there were several cases of distemper reported in the Pokhara region and this prompted many local dog owners to check their HART immunisation cards and ensure their dogs are up to date with vaccinations.

Recently we were all saddened by the passing of Toby the dog. Toby’s story epitomises the support that HART gives. One morning about 18 months ago Toby was found in the school in Pame curled in the corner and in obvious pain. He had a large hole in his side from an attack by another animal. We called HART and they made their way out to Pame. Turning the classroom into a makeshift surgery, they cleaned and treated the badly wounded dog. They immunised Toby and over the coming week we cleaned and fed Toby his medication. He was back on his feet in no time. Since that day Toby always waited for our bus to arrive and happily greets our arrival. Toby had a bit of a set back with his health at one stage and a quick call to HART and they were out to Pame again, treating Toby and getting him back on track. Unfortunately Toby was the victim of a road accident recently. We miss his company out at Pame and we thank HART for the support and quality of life they had given him.

There are many stories of HART treating ill and wounded and neglected animals. Recently one of their team
found a badly distressed and wounded dog near a road works site, he was in such pain he couldn’t sit or
stand. After a month of care the dog, Kancha is now full of life.

HART’s support for these individual animals whilst still carrying out mass vaccination and neutering programmes is a credit to their team.

Thank you for your continued support!

With Gratitude,

GVI Nepal
