201 dogs Neutered and Vaccinated
Dear Supporters,
The team at HART continue their amazing work improving the lives of animals in Nepal. Their vaccination and neturing programmmes continue, for example, the team set up in the area of Birtamode and 201 dogs (107 male, 94 female) were neutered and vaccinated in just the first five surgery days. This is amazing work that certainly makes a difference.
October and November brings the festival time in Nepal and one of the special celebrations is Kukar Tihar. This is the day dedicated solely to the celebration and pampering of dogs for their cherished relationship with humans. HART hosted a celebration for our canine friends and the dogs were blessed with tikka and garlands. This was a time not only to acknowledge our furry friends but also to give credit to the work that the HART team do for the community. One just needed to look around at the dogs that were present on the day to see the amazing work the team does. There were dogs recovering from surgery, some who had needed amputations, some who were recovering from mange and wounds and some just simply lacked care and so were brought to the HART base for help. All of these dogs were on the road to recovery thanks to the team at HART. Some of us also brought along our pet dogs for the celebration, we are thankful to HART for providing the service of being able to bring our dogs along and keep their vaccinations up to date and ensure we are responsible dog owners.
HART also has a community officer who primarily educates in schools however did a fabulous session for a group of volunteers. She talked about the issues facing animal welfare in Nepal as well as explaining the work that HART does on a daily basis to bring about change in the lives of animals. Education is the key to change and this programme not only informed the volunteer group but also is part of the bigger education programme which strives to ensure students in schools develop a greater understanding of how to respect and care for animals. Anjani's role in educating students is critical if we are to see improved understanding of animals in Nepal.
Education in schools as well as the vaccination and neutering programmes will continue into the winter months here in Nepal and with our continued support we can work together towards improving the lives of animals here in Nepal. There are thousands of dogs in Nepal that call the streets their home and have no one to take care of them when they often fall sick or get injured. Our continued support of HART will ensure there is some support available.
All our best,
GVI Nepal
