As 2025 came to a close, the Los Angeles Weekend Miracles community gathered for one final event that reflected the heart and impact of the year. On a chilly morning under gray skies, more than 300 families, youth, and volunteers came together at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area for a memorable hike filled with connection, encouragement, and hope.
The morning began with warm smiles, greetings, and pastries as new and familiar faces met at the trailhead. Before the hike began, Randi Thompson, CEO of Kidsave, welcomed the crowd and reflected on the power of community in helping children find belonging. The group also heard heartfelt words from Joseph, a Kidsave youth, who shared his personal journey toward finding his forever family. His courage and openness reminded everyone of the life-changing impact that meaningful connections can have. Board member Autumn Ronda also spoke, encouraging continued support for youth in foster care and reinforcing the importance of showing up for them.
As hikers set off on the 3-mile trail, the path was filled with laughter, conversation, and encouragement. Youth and adults walked side by side, building genuine connections along the way. The group paused at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial for reflection and photos before continuing to the summit, where sweeping views of Los Angeles served as a powerful reminder of the journey they were taking—together.
At the top, hikers gathered for a group photo, celebrating not just the moment, but a year filled with growth, connection, and impact. The morning concluded with sandwiches, touch football, and shared experiences that embodied the mission of Weekend Miracles: helping children and youth build lasting relationships with caring, supportive adults.
“We’re so grateful to see so many folks—both two-legged and four-legged—come out for Kidsave,” said Genesis Diaz, Kidsave Development and Special Events Manager. “This event reminds us of the importance of creating spaces that support and uplift our kids.”
This special hike was a meaningful way to close out a fantastic year for Los Angeles Weekend Miracles. Throughout 2025, Kidsave hosted events that created opportunities for youth to form trusted relationships, experience new activities, and build confidence in themselves and their futures.
The event also highlighted the generosity of the community. A special thank you to Mark Green for providing new tennis shoes to 37 youth in foster care, helping them feel supported and prepared for new opportunities. Additional thanks go to Autumn Ronda, the Los Angeles Lakers, Lazy Acres, Jimmy Hilburn & Raef Harrison, Alana Saler, Abel Auctions, and Webster Kaplan for sponsoring this impactful event.
Thanks to the incredible support of the Los Angeles community, more than $35,000 was raised to help children and youth in foster care build meaningful, lasting connections.
As we look ahead to 2026, Kidsave is excited to continue hosting Los Angeles Weekend Miracles events that bring youth and caring adults together. With new events, new experiences, and new opportunities on the horizon, we remain committed to helping every child feel seen, supported, and connected to a brighter future.
