Delivering top level competition globally

By Marc Truffaut | President

2025 is a huge year of competition for athletes with an intellectual impairment globally. Already this year we have witnessed incredible performances at the Virtus World Alpine Skiing and Virtus World Nordic Skiing Championships – both hosted in the same region that will host the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the worlds best athletes with an intellectual impairment with both sports hoping to feature in future editions of the Paralympics.

Next it was time for the worlds best basketball teams from around the world to take to the court in Kazakhstan for the Virtus World Basketball Championships. This marked a very significant moment with the launch of the Virtus International Basketball Federation (VIBF) a new subsidiary organisation which is the world governing body of the sport and will drive growth to new countries and new athletes globally.

But the year is only just getting started. The Virtus Para Equestrian Championships take place in the UK in July, followed by the Virtus World Swimming Championships in Thailand in August and then the Virtus World Athletics Championships in Australia soon after.

Our calendar concludes with the Virtus World Table Tennis Championships in Egypt in November and, taken together, this programme gives many thousands of athletes the opportunity to compete at the very highest level. Behind them is a global network representing tens of thousands of athletes who are training year round in the hope of qualifying for a future event, Virtus organisations and our hugely dedicated global volunteer workforce.

This is only possible due to the support you give and – as always – we want to thank everyone who has supported Virtus through our ‘Champions’ project.

You can read all the event reports at virtus.sport or follow our social media channels.
