Dear Supporter,
In the remote Yasawan village of Navotua on the northern shore of Nacula island, GVI volunteers conducted in-depth household surveys and an extensive assessment of the existing rainwater tanks available for the collection and storage of drinking water. From these results, volunteers used donations to carry out basic maintenance on broken rainwater harvesting systems such as repairing the church guttering and creating better drainage around water sources.
The GVI team increased the overall available rainwater holding capacity in Navotua village by 15,000 litres through the donation and installation of Rainwater harvesting systems at the primary school and the village community hall.
After the construction was complete GVI volunteers delivered training workshops on tank cleaning and maintenance to the youth group in order to help the community to sustain and maintain their own rainwater harvesting systems without outside intervention. All of the village youth participated in the cleaning of all of the tanks within the village to prepare for the rainy season, to ensure all water collected would be clean and safe to drink.
Thank you for supporting this project.
All the best
