Dog Days of Winter

A walk with the trio, Bear and their trainers.

Dealla, Cahira and Garda, the three Great Pyrenees that came into our care from County of San Diego Department of Animal Services in April of 2023 are doing well. During the last nine months we have seen steady, consistent improvement. Much of the improvement we have seen has been the result of professional training with Sits Getting Real pet training. Using positive reinforcement Tomas Natterstad works with both the dog and our key team members each week. We have seen three semi-feral dogs who cowered in their kennels into dogs excited about interacting with people and exploring the ranch. Their absolutely favorite activity is to goon "sniff walks" around the ranch.

As grateful as we are to Tomas for his expertise, we also owe a debt of gratitude to Bear. Bear is a St. Bernard. He, along with two buddies were picked up as strays by Animal Services in June of 2023. A former owner came to the shelter, identified who he gave the three dogs to and he took one home, leaving Bear and one buddy at the shelter. The buddy was quickly adopted, but Bear remained. At the request of one of our team members we agreed to exit Bear from the shelter, and have him neutered in hopes that he could find a home.

It turns out that Bear is the best thing that could have happened to the three Great Pyrenees. Bear absolutely loves people, all people, so he modeled very positive behaviors for the Pyrenees and helped develop their natural curiosity. Most importantly though, Bear taught the three to play. And wow, do they play, all day every day! Needless to say, Bear has found his furever home at the ranch as the emotional support dog, for Deala, Cahira and Garda.

Thank you for making the lives of these dogs possible. Your support has allowed us to purchase the first phase of fencing. This allows the four dogs to live together fulltime, rather than separately. Our next priority is the 10 by 12 ft. Tuff Shed, which will serve as a dog house for these beautiful dogs. We look forward to providing these dogs an even brighter future. Thank you for being part of that future!
