A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the Forgotten Kingdom project in Kruger, South Africa!
It is clear that populations of wildlife are decreasing drastically, but conservation research is very difficult when animals are elusive and/or nocturnal. In order to more effectively research, understand, and conserve those species we rely on videos and photographs from camera traps. This allows our African Impact researchers and interns to contribute towards conservation initiatives, expand the scientific knowledge base and supply information for effective management strategies in reserves which allows for their long-term population permanence.
The week our researchers spotted an aardvark, which is one of the most elusive nocturnal species!
On a recent night drive we saw many nocturnal species - civet, genet, white tailed mongoose, porcupine, spotted hyena and a white face owl! Over the last month we have collected data on 54 different raptors, including critically endangered Hooded Vultures and White Backed Vultures.
We are looking forward to seeing the huge impact that this project has on the wildlife in South Africa!
