We hope you’re having a beautiful start to April.

The past couple of months have been a time of gatherings, reflection, and revival as our global community carved the space to remember the life and legacy of our beloved founder, Edgar Cahn, who passed away on January 23, 2022.

A revolutionary in the world of law, Edgar changed the legal landscape of the United States and created timebanking as a beautiful expression of his passion for justice, which has been adopted worldwide in 42 countries. He left behind an immense legacy of planting seeds of change, which we are committed to continuing.

Timebanking UK hosted the 4th Annual International Timebanking Day with support from us at TimeBanks.Org on what would have been Edgar’s 87th birthday on March 23rd and the Sunday prior. We got to hear about all the amazing ways people are building their communities in India, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, the UK, and here in the U.S - a wonderful celebration of timebanking on Edgar’s birthday.

March 23, 2022 has also been declared Edgar Cahn Day in Washington, DC. Step into Edgar Cahn's Legacy by clicking on the link provided below to read the Ceremonial Resolution.

Today, we are very excited to launch Edgar’s Legacy: Plant Seeds of Change! Every day for 5 days, from April 4th - 8th, we will be sharing the personal stories of individuals whose life and work have been impacted by Edgar. It is tied with the Little by Little matching funds campaign to help raise funds to continue his legacy, with a bigger goal of spreading awareness of Edgar's Legacy by sharing - and calling for - stories that will hopefully inspire others to take action. We invite you to help us launch Edgar’s Legacy. The funds we raise through the campaign will be dedicated as seed funding for the project that is selected to receive the “SEEDS OF CHANGE” Legacy Award.

This is our way of supporting changemakers plant their own seeds of change through Edgar’s Legacy.

Abundance in our Communities

Hello from TimeBanks.Org!

Our TimeBank community is growing stronger and better together. Members are sharing more, connecting more, and healing together. The Town Halls and the coordinator calls have tripled in attendance, just to hear each other’s stories. Collaborating with TimeBank coordinators and community leaders has been an amazing experience. We know that building this integrated movement and bringing together groups and individuals, who are already working on real transformative approaches towards meaningful change, IS THE MAGIC that creates abundant and healthy lives.

The Wealthiest Woman in Reading

Donna Marie arrived from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. The single mother and her three children looked for a better future in Reading, Pennsylvania. This city has been fighting poverty and disinvestment for decades. When she arrived, Donna immediately realized that life in Reading would not be the same as in San Juan. While she lived in Puerto Rico, Donna worked as a community liaison for Residencial Las Margaritas and was always involved in her community through local charity organizations. Her neighborhood had built a support network that took care of each other and offered help in case of need. But Hurricane Maria proved to be too much. After Maria, the infrastructure of the island proved beyond difficult with scarce water and food, and a failing electrical system, so she decided to move in with her parents in Pennsylvania.

When she arrived in Reading she found the same values from her island reflected in the organization Barrio Alegria: At Barrio we share everything. READ MORE and get Donna's recipe.

TimeBanks.Org sponsors the TimeForAll Timebank

We are excited to announce that TimeBanks.Org now sponsors the TimeForAll Timebank, a timebank designed specifically for timebank coordinators. This global timebank gives coordinators from all over the world a chance to share experiences and create a community of changemakers, exchange time credits for valuable skills, resources, mentorship and even a spare room if needed!

It is important to us to support coordinators and continue to nurture those who are pioneers in building timebank communities. This month’s guest presenter on their monthly call shared her wealth of experience with board development which can be crucial to any organization. Here’s what our facilitator, Abby, had to say about the call:

“Today's call was INCREDIBLE! Our guest gave us a whirlwind tour of board structure. It was informative and relatable. I loved the question and answer portion which just endears me to this community of coordinators even more. I'm so proud of what we do. Furthermore, a 10 minute addition after the call led us to our next guest speaker who will talk about how having a paid coordinator made a HUGE difference in their New Zealand timebank. She will also discuss the collaboration between sustainability type organizations and timebanking and how that relationship is WORKING!”

Connecting with You

Dr. Artika Tyner's powerful story

Hello from TimeBanks.Org!

We hope your Summer is off to a good start, and for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, a happy Winter to you.

It has been a long pandemic and our team has stayed on mission to build the timebanking movement by cultivating CONNECTION.

Here are some highlights over the Spring that we’d like to share with you:

2nd International Timebanking Day – an annual celebration on our founder, Edgar Cahn’s birthday, March 23rd

This year’s celebration was phenomenal. We hosted two calls with over 180 people who joined us from all over the world including New Zealand, Korea, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Our invited speakers were INSPIRING and POWERFUL. Hear this snippet from TimeBanks.Org board member, Dr. Artika Tyner.

Abby Greer on our team, who is also the founder of one of the largest timebanks in the U.S., Crooked River Alliance of TimeBanks, had these words to share after the call:

“Hearing stories and watching videos of timebanking around the world has changed me. I feel so connected to all of these people who understand the power of exchanging time. It's the first time I have ever felt so connected globally.

We built our local timebank and found instant community - I guess it shouldn't come as such a shock that the same kind of community exists all over! I am just humbled. I am also grateful to the people of Kent, Ohio who believed this would work. BTW, I got a few messages from other countries who have been watching us. Um, WOW.....

During the call, Edgar Cahn asks, 'What is our purpose?' The seasoned timebankers seem to know.”

We look forward to next year’s celebration which will be hosted by Timebanking UK!

Town Hall Virtual Calls – every 3rd Sunday of the month

We launched the monthly Town Halls in April this year as a way for timebank members to share and hear each other’s personal stories and have a conversation with timebanking founder, Edgar Cahn and co-host, Christine Gray.

Anyone can join. The current series is a deep dive into timebanking’s core values, focusing on one core value every call. The one-hour calls have been rich and illuminating and are gaining popularity with more and more people sharing their voices. They give us a chance to have worthwhile conversations on timebanking’s highest priorities, deeply held beliefs, and provide a foundation for building our communities.

Your Impact

We are grateful for your support and for making our Little by Little Matching Campaign in March a success. Your donations have a big impact on our capacity to grow timebanks. We were able to expand our outreach this year by hiring Abby, as mentioned above, on our team. Abby has built her timebank from the ground up since 2010 and has recorded a whopping 89,302 hours exchanged today! Now timebanks from all over can draw from her deep experience.
