Greetings from Gulu!
We have so much to share since our last update. Our organization has achieved so
many milestones since we first began in 2017, increasing our areas of vocational
training, employing more of our graduates at a fair wage, expanding the line of products
being produced by our artisans, and conducting home visits to ensure that the needs of
our artisan families are being met. Each achievement has allowed us to
increase our impact in the Gulu area. As important and fantastic as these are, our overarching, long-term goal as a non-profit organization has always been to provide a way to support
these women to follow their own, individual dreams. Last October, we finally reached a position
where we could offer micro-finance loans to five beneficiaries! These recipients have completed our training program and have been employed by us for at least two years, sticking with us through thick and thin. Throughout all of this, we all kept hoping that this day would eventually arrive.
To qualify for one of our micro-finance loans, each candidate was required to
write a business plan, complete a financial literacy course with us, and open a bank
account. They all passed with flying colors! As their businesses are getting off the
ground, they will continue to work for The Ribe Project so that there is no disruption to
their income. Our artisans are becoming farmers, shopkeepers, clothiers, and caterers,
and we are excited to watch their dreams begin to become reality!
Stay tuned for updates!
