With billions of people spending time in quarantine, it’s an unfortunate truth that domestic violence has become a twin pandemic of the coronavirus. Sheltering at home can leave women and children trapped with their abusers and cut off from support. But in Colombia, our partner Taller de Vida (TdV) continues to make sure women and girls have safe spaces to gather and seek the vital services they need. It’s thanks to your support that this lifesaving work is possible.
Charting the course for this critical work is TdV’s leader, Stella, who safely gathers families and communities together to address ongoing violence. She grounds these conversations in culturally relevant contexts, bringing a depth of understanding and comfort to alleviate the stress and trauma that these Indigenous women face. Some of the healing activities Stella facilitates include making bracelets or necklaces -- creating natural spaces for women to gather, talk, and support each other, while also crafting a product that can be sold and increasing economic independence.
Thanks to you and women leaders like Stella, local families can seek help when they need it most and maintain a sense of community during a time of isolation. We’re grateful to you for making this life saving work possible!
