Every year, the medical team of Sanando Heridas brings hope and health to the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico. Through this project, we will provide 2,400 life-saving medical consultations (including tsotsil translation and essential medicines) to 800 children living in extreme poverty. With your support, we can stop preventable illnesses such as respiratory infections, gastrointestinal diseases, dental problems, and malnutrition from becoming fatal.
In the highlands of Chiapas, growing up healthy is not the norm, it's a challenge. According to INEGI (2018), while Mexico's national infant mortality rate is 10.8%, in Chiapas it rises to 16.6%, and in the Altos region it reaches a devastating 34.5%. Children under five often suffer from malnutrition and recurrent infections, lowering their school performance and making them dangerously vulnerable. In these conditions, illnesses that are easily treatable elsewhere can become life-threatening.
In many communities of the region, access to a doctor simply doesn't exist. INEGI (2017) reports that Chiapas has just one doctor for every 706 people, ranking last nationally in specialized healthcare. That's why our medical team becomes the only lifeline for hundreds of families. We bring quality primary healthcare directly to the communities, provide medication, translate into tsotsil, educate families, and ensure children receive timely, dignified care. Together, we save lives.
Your contribution helps us protect 800 tsotsil children from preventable and curable diseases. By offering continuous medical monitoring and strengthening healthy habits in their families, we directly reduce child mortality. In the long term, this means healthier childhoods, better development, and stronger futures for entire communities.
