Healthcare for indigenous kids in Chiapas, Mexico

Dear friends, as a qualitative report from Sanando Heridas, we want to share three testimonies from women who have received medical care for their young children.

 Testimony 1.

Community in Teopisca, Chiapas

Name: Adelina (mother of two children under 5 years old)

 Do you think Sanando Heridas has improved the health of children and their families? Yes/No because…

 “Yes, the truth is that since the doctors have been coming here, I bring my children when they have a fever, they give them their medicines, their vitamins, everything, it goes away, and I like the doctors because we can spend less. They give us everything here, medicines, pills, for our children.”

What changes have you seen in the health of your daughters? Of your sons?

 “So they don't get sick as much, because when my other daughter was born there weren't so many illnesses yet... My other daughter got sick a lot. I have two boys, and I like it because they also take care of our teeth, they come to clean everything, and that's good for us, because we can't afford it anywhere else.”

Testimony 2.

Name: Emilia (mother of a 3-year-old girl)

 “I think it's good that they come, because sometimes they are really sick. Before, other doctors came, but they haven't come for a while now. We had to go to San Cristóbal to get medicine. But here, we know when they're coming and we bring the children, and they get better here too, with all their medications. We really feel happier that they come here, that they support us. Because before it was very difficult, but now it's better. Now that they feel sick, we come to get their medicine. If the doctors treat them well, we can't say no.”

 And what changes have you seen in your children's health?

 “He's the one who got sick the most, from the time he was born, and before he was born. I used to come, let's say, for my pregnancy checkups. When he was born, his vision was bad. He was born, as well as with his chelitos (eye infection)… well, every morning he had to clean it, because his eyes were leaking a lot. And this one, well, here they gave him his drops and everything. They taught me how to clean him too. His vision was also healed. His stomach was also sick, he had a lot of diarrhea, and he had diarrhea for about four months. Well, from here he found his recovery, and he got better.”

“I ask you not to stop coming because it's the most necessary thing for you to be here, to always care for us, to always come. And we also appreciate that you help us, really, because without us giving you anything, you support us.”

 Testimony 3.

 Community in Zinacantan, Chiapas

Name: Carla  (mother of an 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl)

 Do you think Sanando Heridas has improved the health of children and their families? Yes/No because…

 “It has benefited me a lot because my son had been coughing badly for months, and I brought him here. Now he's fine, he's doing very well.”

 And what changes have you seen in your children's health?

“Now he's better… like he's gained a little weight, he's happier, he comes to school more happily, and I bring him in for a checkup every month, even when he's not sick, for his deworming or some vitamins the doctor gives him. He's also been to the dentist to check his teeth, to see how they're doing.”

 “I'm very grateful to Sanando Heridas for coming here to Tierra Blanca.”

Testimonio de tres madres de familia

 Queridos amigos a manera de un informe cualitativo de Sanando Heridas, queremos compartirles tres testimonios de mujeres que han sido receptoras de la consulta médica en atención a sus pequeños niños y niñas

Testimonio 1.

Comunidad en Teopisca, Chiapas

Nombre: Adelina  (madre de familia de dos niños menores de 5 años)

 ¿Considera usted que Sanando Heridas ha mejorado la salud de las niñas, niños y sus familias? Si/No porque…

“Sí, la verdad es que desde que los doctores están viniendo aquí, traigo a mis niños cuando les da calentura, les dan sus jarabes, su vitamina, todo, se les quita, y de mi parte me gusta que estén los doctores porque podemos gastar menos, aquí nos dan todo, los jarabes, pastillas, para nuestros niños”

¿Qué cambios ha visto en la salud de sus hijas? ¿De sus hijos?

“Por lo que no se enferman tanto, porque cuando nació mi otra niña no habíatantas  enfermedades todavía… se enfermaba mucho mi otra mi niña, tengo dos niños, y me gusta porque también atienden nuestros dientes, todo lo vienen a limpiar, y eso es bueno para nosotros, porque no lo podemos pagar en otro lado”

Testimonio 2.

Nombre: Emilia Maribel Gómez Gómez (madre de familia de niña de 3 años)

 ¿Considera usted que Sanando Heridas ha mejorado la salud de las niñas, niños y sus familias? Si/No porque…

 “Me parece bueno que vienen, porque hay veces de verdad que están enfermos, antes había otras doctores que venían, pero pues ya desde hace tiempo que ya no vienen, teníamos que salir a San Cristóbal a conseguir medicina, en cambio aquí, ya sabemos cuándo van a venir y traemos a los niños, y aquí hayan sus mejorías también, todos sus remedios,  nosotros de verdad nos sentimos más felices que vienen aquí, que nos apoyan,  porque antes costaba mucho, ahorita ya es mejor pues ya se sienten enfermos ya les venimos a buscar sus medicinas todo pues si los doctores atienden bien no podemos decir que no”

 ¿Y qué cambios ha visto en la salud de sus niños?

 “De él es el que más se me enfermó, desde que nació y antes de que naciera, venía yo, digamos, a mis chequeos de mi embarazo, cuando nació,  estuvo mal de su vista, nació, así como con sus chelitos (infección ocular)… pues cada mañana se tenía que limpiar, porque escurría muchos de sus ojitos, y este, pues ya aquí le daban sus gotitas y todo, me enseñaron cómo limpiarle también,  se sanó también de su vista, de su estomaguito también se enfermó  tenía mucha diarrea y tuvo como cuatro meses con diarrea. Pues de aquí halló su mejoría, y se compuso”

“Yo les pido que no dejen de venir porque es lo más necesario que estén aquí, que nos atiendan aquí siempre, que vengan siempre. Y también agradecemos que nos ayudan, de verdad, porque sin nada que les demos, pero nos apoyan”

Testimonio 3.

 Comunidad en Zinacantan, Chiapas

Nombre: Carla (madre de familia de niño de 8 y niña de 4 años)

 ¿Considera usted que Sanando Heridas ha mejorado la salud de las niñas, niños y sus familias? Si/No porque…

 “A mi me ha beneficiado mucho porque mi niño ya llevaba meses con mucha tos y lo traje acá, Y ahorita está bien ya, se encuentra muy bien”

 ¿Y qué cambios ha visto en la salud de sus niños?

“Ahorita ya está mejor…como que engordo un poquito, ya está más contento, llega más contento a la escuela, y lo traigo cada mes a consulta, aunque no esté enfermo, por su desparasitante o alguna vitamina que le da la doctora y también ha ido con la odontóloga a checar sus dientes, cómo va”

 “Estoy muy agradecida a Sanando Heridas por que ha venido aca a mi comunidad”
