Book Bloom Project – Donor Impact Report
Presented by Tarana Foundation Date: August 2025
Introduction
The Book Bloom Project is a heartfelt initiative partially funded through our broader education-focused mission to uplift children from marginalized communities. This foundational effort seeks to address literacy gaps and support the broader educational needs of underserved schools across the Colombo District.
Project Overview
As a flagship program under the Tarana Foundation, the Book Bloom Project is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant reading culture in five under-resourced primary schools in Colombo. Over the course of one year, the initiative aims to enhance access to quality books and foster engaging reading experiences that inspire lifelong learning.
Project Objectives
Encourage reading habits among students in five underprivileged primary schools in Colombo.
Provide access to books, learning materials, and volunteer-led engagement to support holistic education.
Equip school libraries with age-appropriate books and educational resources to sustain reading throughout the year.
Conduct storytelling and reading sessions led by dedicated volunteers to spark imagination and curiosity.
Bridge the educational divide between resource-rich and underserved schools by nurturing foundational literacy skills.
Schools Reached
The project is being rolled out in five carefully selected primary schools, chosen through community engagement and needs assessments.
Two schools have already received support.
The remaining three schools are scheduled for completion by end of September 2025. Each school receives tailored resources to ensure meaningful and lasting impact.
What We've Delivered So Far
500+ books distributed across two schools
Library corners established or upgraded in each school
Teacher engagement to integrate reading into classroom activities
Reading kits (books, bookmarks, journals) provided to 180 students
Monthly reading sessions and storytelling events conducted by volunteers
Heartfelt Gratitude
We extend our deepest appreciation to Anand & Tammy, whose extraordinary generosity helped launch a separate initiative—"Bridging the Gap: Education & Literacy Support"—on GlobalGiving, in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary.
Rather than receiving gifts, they chose to channel the goodwill of their loved ones toward supporting underserved children in Sri Lanka. Their compassion and vision have made a lasting impact, and we are truly inspired by their example.
We wish Anand & Tammy continued joy, health, and prosperity—and may their noble aspirations continue to blossom and uplift others.
Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning. We are committed to continuing with future initiatives that support children from rural and underserved communities—not only in their education, but also in meeting other essential needs that help them thrive. Together, we are planting seeds of opportunity that will grow for generations.
Thank You
Your generosity has helped us launch a movement—one that begins with a book and grows into a lifelong journey of learning. We are profoundly grateful for your belief in our mission and in the potential of every child.
May you and your family be blessed abundantly with joy, health, and prosperity.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Suranjani Wickremeratne
