Phase 1 is Done. Onward to Building Phase!

We sincerely thank you for your patience, as we know it has been over a year since you last heard from us. During this time, we have continued working steadily toward the building phase of our home building project. Thanks to your generosity, this GlobalGiving project has now fully raised its $14,000 goal and is officially complete.

Through this project and additional donations, we have accomplished important groundwork to stabilize our Jinja women’s group after the coronavirus pandemic; establish needed infrastructure and obtain architectural drawings; and to position the women to ultimately have a permanent home and move out of the slums. Beginning last fall, we also started internal fundraising to raise the modest funds needed to construct a metal sheet building on the property.

This initial building will serve multiple purposes. It will house two women and their families, provide secure storage for building materials as construction progresses, and significantly improve site security by having families living on the property to monitor daily activity. Once the main construction phase is complete, the building will be converted into three small rental shops, generating a supplemental stream of income to help maintain the property long-term.

We expect to complete fundraising for this building by mid-year and then move directly into home construction. At that point, we plan to launch a new GlobalGiving project specifically to support specific building costs. In the meantime, you can continue to support Outreach Uganda through our other GlobalGiving projects focused on our community school, clinic, and girls’ programs in northern Uganda.

Thank you again for standing with us and helping our Jinja women take meaningful steps toward moving out of the slums.

With gratitude,

Carol Davis
