Help empower girls and women
Dear friend
I hope this report finds you helpful and you and your family are safe and in good health. As the COVID 19 cases are rising all over India, we are truly grateful to all our donors who have supported us this year and every year, and who remain committed to supporting us going forward.
Streets are not safe for girls and women in India, but El Shaddai has taken several initiatives by organizing campaigns, community awareness programs, and providing livelihood training to rural young girls and women to initiate their ventures.
Most of the women after experiencing the crisis were eager to join the vocational classes as they had a lot to bear in this pandemic and also the centres had to remain closed. When the lockdown was eased, El Shaddai gradually restarted the program in the month of October 2020 for the women keeping in mind all the safety measures and new normal.
Our outreach workers and teachers provided opportunities to the women and girls from underdeveloped rural communities to learn livelihood skills and explore themselves. We have successfully been able to maintain the Centre and gave 136 women over the course of 6 months in tailoring, embroidery, computers, Mehendi, dance, and computer classes along with adult literacy skills. Every week we require raw materials and equipment to conduct the classes and we are able to provide with your support. The women have successfully completed the course to begin a new job or business from home and earn a living in their community.
At El Shaddai, around 20 ladies were enrolled for tailoring classes at Tremera Community centre. 26 ladies are enrolled for tailoring, 34 women are enrolled for computer classes, 11 women are enrolled for Mehendi and hairstyle and showed interest in dance classes at Ashraya Community centre, Vasco. Have around 16 women for tailoring classes, six women for crochet, 8 women for computers, and 8 women for Mehendi classes. Priti, Priyanka, Yallava, Salma, Shabnam, Arati, Mehboobi, and other ladies have started earning their livelihood by stitching clothes.
On 8th of March 2021, one of our centre celebrated women’s day where women were made aware about the woman’s rights, health hygiene, and good eating habits. Health and dental checks were done for the girls and women through the public health centres. El Shaddai has been giving continuous support on a daily and monthly basis through different provisions depending upon their requirements.
