The vocational classes are conducted for the women in our community centers to uplift and to improve the livelihood of the women from the marginalized communities.Vocational Training programs have proved crucial in equipping the women to secure a viable job and support their families. These trainings are conducted in our community centers located in different parts of Goa like, Tremera Community Centre in Chimbel -Panjim, Ashraya Community Center in Birla- Vasco and Albert’s good News Community Center in Moti Donger -Margao.
The vocational Training programs provided currently in our centers are Tailoring, Mehandi, computer classes, croache classes and macramé classes.
Tailoring Classes:
In our tailoring classes, the women are taught from the basics of tailoring from cutting to stitching of blouses, all types of chudidhar sets, gowns, umbrella frocks and etc. The classes are conducted in different batches. Overall 201 women have got benefitted in the last three months.
Computer classes:
Computer classes are conducted mostly for the school dropouts to enhance their career, few women as well get benefitted with this computer classes learning the basics of operating the computer, word, excel and power point.
Mehendi Classes:
In our Mehendi classes we teach our students different types of shapes, flowers, Arabic designs and bridal designs. On an average 30 women enrolled for this course and got benefitted.
Crochet/ Macrame classes:
In this training the students are taught to make duster, table cloth,traditional door hangings and many more.
Medical Camps and Awareness programmes
On a monthly basis medical camps, Dental checkups, Immunization camps and general health checkups are conducted for the people from the slums. Around 45 – 50 people get benefitted from these checkups every month.
Awareness program about the health and hygiene, mensuration and usage of the reusable pads was conducted in the month of November. Reusable pads were distributed to the women free of cost. A small training program was also conducted on how to use these pads and how they have to keep themselves clean during their mensuration. Now the women are educated how they have to maintain their hygiene and also they learnt to use the reusable pads which they received free of cost and is very much cost effective.
An awareness program about the family planning, breast cancer and HIV/AIDS was conducted in the month of October for the women. A team from Hamsa trust came and spoke about the HIV causes and prevention and showed a video presentation to the crowd. Around 100 women participated in the program and got educated about the same.
