Billboards, Protests & Big Media Coverage

By Nicole Arciello | Executive Director

Preakness Protest, Baltimore Maryland
Preakness Protest, Baltimore Maryland

Thanks to your support, we’ve continued our relentless campaign to expose and dismantle the cruelty of the horseracing industry.

In the first half of 2025, your donations powered bold public outreach, high-impact media coverage, and protests at the industry’s biggest events.

Mobile Billboards:

We deployed mobile billboards across the country to bring our message directly to racing venues and surrounding communities. These billboards expose the deaths, the abuse, and the billions in taxpayer subsidies that prop up this dying industry.

Protests at All Triple Crown Races:

Our dedicated advocates turned out in force at each leg of the Triple Crown:

  • Kentucky Derby (Louisville, KY)

  • Preakness Stakes (Baltimore, MD)

  • Belmont Stakes (Saratoga Springs, NY)

From Churchill Downs to Saratoga, we stood for the horses—reminding fans, bettors, and the media that horseracing kills.

Major Media Coverage:

Our work is reaching the national conversation. In just the past few months, we were featured or interviewed in:

  • Spectrum News (June) – NY horseracing subsidies

  • The Boston Globe (May) – deaths and subsidies in Massachusetts

  • ESPN (May) – HISA and federal regulation

  • MSNBC (May) – Kentucky Derby horse deaths

  • NBC Louisville (April) – Churchill Downs fatalities

  • The Baltimore Sun (March) – Maryland racing industry

  • The New York Times (February) – taxpayer subsidies and dead horses

  • ABC Miami (January) – Pegasus World Cup protest

This level of sustained, high-profile exposure is shifting public perception and applying pressure on lawmakers and regulators alike.

Together, we're building a movement.  We WILL end this cruel industry. Thank you for being a voice for the horses.

With gratitude,
