As we close 2024, our mission continues to thrive with love and dedication. Each year, we grow—not just in numbers, but in the impact we have on the lives of vulnerable children in La Vega, Caracas. This Christmas, we once again transformed their reality by sharing the traditions, flavors, and joy of Venezuelan holiday celebrations.

A Christmas Feast of Tradition and Love: This year, we ensured that hundreds of children enjoyed a true Venezuelan Christmas meal—hallacas, ham bread, chicken salad, and Christmas cake. These festive dishes are not only delicious but represent the essence of our shared traditions. For many families, these meals are a luxury they cannot afford amidst Venezuela's ongoing humanitarian crisis. Through the generosity of our donors and the hard work of our volunteers, we made this celebration possible.

Celebrating as a Community: Beyond providing nourishment, our goal has always been to foster connections. In one festive gathering, children, teachers, directors, cooks, and volunteers came together to celebrate. But the true magic was in the shared moments of laughter, love, and gratitude.

Transforming Lives Through Shared Joy: This mission is not just about food—it’s about hope. It’s about preserving traditions that shape our identity, even in the face of hardship. Since 2017, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that these children continue learning, thriving, and sharing joyful experiences in environments that nurture both their bodies and spirits.

With faith and determination, we move forward into 2025, ready to continue this beautiful mission of nourishing, educating, and loving those who need us most.

Al cerrar el 2024, nuestra misión sigue creciendo con amor y dedicación. Cada año, no solo aumentamos en números, sino en el impacto que tenemos en las vidas de los niños vulnerables de La Vega, Caracas. Esta Navidad, una vez más transformamos su realidad compartiendo tradiciones, sabores y la alegría de las celebraciones navideñas venezolanas.

Un Banquete Navideño de Tradición y Amor: Este año, aseguramos que cientos de niños disfrutaran de una verdadera comida navideña venezolana: hallacas, pan de jamón, ensalada de gallina y torta de Navidad. Estos platos festivos no solo son deliciosos, sino que representan la esencia de nuestras tradiciones compartidas. Para muchas familias, estas comidas son un lujo que no pueden permitirse en medio de la crisis humanitaria que enfrenta Venezuela. Gracias a la generosidad de nuestros donantes y al arduo trabajo de nuestros voluntarios, hicimos posible esta celebración.

Celebrando en Comunidad: Más allá de brindar nutrición, nuestro objetivo siempre ha sido fomentar conexiones. En una sola reunión festiva, niños, maestras, directoras, cocineras y voluntarios se unieron para celebrar. Pero la verdadera magia estuvo en los momentos compartidos de risas, amor y gratitud.

Transformando Vidas a Través de la Alegría Compartida: Esta misión no se trata solo de comida: se trata de esperanza. Se trata de preservar tradiciones que dan forma a nuestra identidad, incluso frente a las adversidades. Desde 2017, hemos trabajado incansablemente para garantizar que estos niños sigan aprendiendo, prosperando y compartiendo experiencias llenas de alegría en entornos que nutren tanto sus cuerpos como sus espíritus.

Providing food, education, and love to vulnerable children in La Vega, Caracas, has been the mission since 2017, when the humanitarian crisis erupted in Venezuela. When food, education, and love are given to so many children, joy lights up their faces, and those smiles of happy children become the most gratifying reward that compensates for the great effort such work requires.

Even though it may seem simple, serving each child a plate of delicious, warm, nutritious, and balanced food every day, at their table, in their classroom, in their school, is a gesture that requires the effort and participation of many wills turned into actions, hands that love, educate, and nourish.

This work starts from the moment campaigns are created to raise funds, donations are collected, menus are prepared, food is purchased, distributed to schools, stored, meals are prepared, and then served to the children. Ensuring that every child receives their meal involves mothers, teachers, cooks, and a long list of allies who make everything else possible to secure the resources (both material and human) needed to achieve the objectives.

But little is said about the training support that teachers and cooks need to do their job well. Identifying parameters that indicate the nutritional levels of each child, knowing the proper storage for different types of food to prevent spoilage and loss of nutritional value, preparing balanced menus with the available resources that children will enjoy—these are many of the tasks that teachers and cooks must know, but no one teaches them.

That is why we sought the support of a new ally for our mission’s success: the Antímano Children's Nutritional Care Center (CANIA). During three sessions over three consecutive weeks in June, CANIA provided the "Interdisciplinary Training Cycle in Food and Nutrition" to offer tools in all these areas.

Thus, over three consecutive Mondays, the directors, teachers, cooks, and members of the Pabellón Con Arepa Foundation received training from a panel of experts from CANIA at the Digital Room of Canaima School (one of the institutions benefiting from our nutritional-educational program). The panel included participation from a multidisciplinary team led by nutritionist Pedro, who covered all aspects of nutrition, psychologist Suheiz, who addressed eating behaviors and habits, social worker Ana, psychosocial development coordinator at the center, and educator Daniela. The training was an experience that most participants found "very helpful and rewarding."

Yanet, a cook at Canaima School, commented that "all this knowledge they provide us with to strengthen our work in the kitchen is very helpful, especially understanding what a nutritious diet should be and how to identify a malnourished child."

For Bertha, a member of the Pabellón Con Arepa Foundation responsible for coordinating information and communications for the Nutritional-Educational Program, "It was very valuable training as it helped reinforce my knowledge about eating habits. I liked when they explained the proper combinations of some foods that can be prepared in different ways to break the routine... The measures and weights indicate the level of nutrition or malnutrition of the child."

Yuleima, director of Juana La Avanzadora Preschool, said, "Everything was excellent, especially the balanced diet topic, the proper preparation of menus for the children, and particularly knowing how to support a child and refer them to CANIA if they are at risk of malnutrition."

For Pedro, a graduate in Nutrition and Dietetics from the Education and Institutional Outreach Department at CANIA and one of the speakers, "The Interdisciplinary Training in Food and Nutrition focused on girls, boys, and adolescents that took place at Canaima School in La Vega was very beneficial. The participation of the teaching staff and the food preparers was very enriching. They were all eager to learn. The objective was to impart some knowledge on food and nutrition to provide timely support to improve the practices already being carried out by the institutions involved in the Pabellón Con Arepa project."

For all these reasons, we believe that this partnership with CANIA has been very successful, and we are immensely grateful for their support in strengthening our mission to feed, educate, and love. Above all, we thank them for helping us do something that few, if any, do in support of those who feed and educate children: train those hands that love, feed, and educate.

Brindar alimentación, educación y amor a los niños vulnerables de La Vega, en Caracas, ha sido la mision que todos emprendimos en 2017, cuando la crisis humanitaria se desató en Venezuela. Y cuando se brinda alimentación, educación y amor a tantos niños, la alegría ilumina sus rostros y esa sonrisa de niños felices se convierten en el regalo más gratificante que compensa el gran esfuerzo que realizar dicha labor implica.
Y es que, por muy sencillo que parezca, servir cada día a cada niño un plato con ricos alimentos, calientitos, nutritivos y balanceados, en su mesa, en su aula de clases, en su escuela, es un gesto que requiere el esfuerzo y participación de muchas voluntades convertidas en hechos, manos que aman, educan y alimentan.
Esta labor empieza desde el momento en que se crean campañas para recaudar fondos, se colectan, se elaboran los menús, se realizan las compras de alimentos, se distribuyen a las escuelas, se almacenan, se preparan las comidas y se sirven a los niños. Lograr que cada niño reciba su comida involucra madres, maestres, cocineras y una larga lista de aliados que hacen posible todo lo demás para que se disponga de los recursos (materiales y humanos) para lograr los objetivos.
Pero poco se habla del apoyo formativo que las maestras y cocineras necesitan para hacer bien su labor. Identificar parámetros que indican los niveles nutricionales de cada niño, conocer cuál es almacenamiento adecuado para cada uno de los diferentes alimentos evitando su descomposición y pérdida de valores nutricionales, preparar los menús balaceados con los recursos disponibles y que a los niños les guste, son muchas de las tareas que maestras y cocineras deben conocer pero que nadie les enseña.
Y es por esto que recurrimos al apoyo de un nuevo aliado para el logo de nuestra misión: el Centro de Atención Nutricional Infantil de Antímano (CANIA), quienes durante 3 jornadas de 3 semanas consecutivas del mes de junio, brindaron el “Ciclo de Formación Interdisciplinaria en Alimentación y Nutrición”, para brindar herramientas en todo esto que mencionamos.
Es así como durante 3 lunes consecutivos, las directoras, maestras, cocineras y miembros de la Fundación Pabellón Con Arepa recibieron en la Sala Digital de la Escuela Canaima (una de las instituciones beneficiarias de nuestro programa nutricional-educativo), la formación de un panel de expertos de CANIA que incluyeron la participación del equipo multidisciplinario integrado por el nutricionista Pedro, quien abordó todo el tema de nutrición, la psicólogo Suheiz quien expuso lo relacionado con conductas y hábitos de alimentación, la trabajadora social Ana, coordinadora de desarrollo psicosocial del centro y la Educadora Daniela. El ciclo resultó una experiencia que para la mayoría de los participantes fue “de gran ayuda y muy gratificante”.
Yanet, cocinera de la Escuela Canaima comentó que “es de gran ayuda todo este conocimiento que nos brindan para fortalecer nuestra labor en la cocina, lo más importante de cómo debe ser una alimentación nutritiva y cómo captar un niño con desnutrición”.
Para Bertha, integrante de la Fundación Pabellón Con Arepa encargada de la coordinación de información y comunicaciones del Programa Nutricional-Educativo “Fue una formación muy valiosa, ya que me ayudó a reforzar los conocimientos que tengo sobre los hábitos alimenticios. Me gustó cuando nos dijeron las combinaciones adecuadas de algunos alimentos que se pueden preparar de distintas formas para, además, salir un poco de la rutina... Las medidas y peso nos indica el grado de nutrición o mal nutricional del niño.”.
Yuleima, directora del Preescolar Juana La Avanzadora afirma que “todo fue muy bueno, el tema de la alimentación balanceada, la elaboración adecuada de los menús para los niños y, especialmente, conocer como apoyar a un niño y remitirlo a CANIA, en caso de presentar riesgo de desnutrición”.
Para Pedro, Licenciado en Nutrición y Dietétca del departamento de Educación y Proyección Institucional de CANIA y uno de los ponentes,“la Formación Interdisciplinaria en Alimentación y Nutrición enfocada para niñas, niños y adolescentes, que se desarrolló en la Escuela Canaima en La Vega fue bastante provechosa, muy nutritiva la participación del personal docente y las madres procesadoras de alimentos, muy habidos de conocimientos todas ellas, el objetivo fue impartir algunos conocimientos en alimentación y nutrición enfocados en hacer un acompañamiento oportuno para mejorar las prácticas que ya en sí vienen realizando la instituciones involucradas en el proyecto de Pabellón Con Arepa.“
Por todo esto, creemos que ha sido muy acertada esta alianza con CANIA a quienes además agradecemos enormemente su apoyo para fortalecer nuestra misión de alimentar, educar y amar pero, sobre todo, por ayudarnos a hacer algo que pocos o nadie hace en apoyo de quienes alimentan y educan a los niños: formar esas manos que aman, alimentan y educan.
