Shade for Chidlren hoped to provide a construction grant to an adoptive/foster family building a home in Ukraine. They have one adopted child and are in the process of either adopting or taking custody of up to two more children. They currently live in a two room apartment so they need the space in their new home. The project never gained traction during the end-of-the-year giving period and honestly, just took a back-seat to more pressing projects such as the Small Group Home for special needs children that is also under construction.
The family in question has continued to build and expects the home to be move-in ready (but not entirely completed) in the coming weeks. A grant before the end of this summer would allow them to more easily make the final push for completion. They are expecting a placement from social services any day now.
They are painting interior walls and finishing flooring right now. They still need to install all the switches and plug-ins, lighting, baseboards and other trim, and ceilings (a rubbery stretch ceiling) in every room. HVAC is ordered and paid for but they can't move in until it is installed. They have a refrigerator but no kitchen. They don't have any interior doors and they need at least two (for bathrooms) before they can movie in.
Here are some estimates to get the house 1) move-in ready and 2) completed.
