Dear friends,
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everybody who helped us support the people of Viña del Mar affected by the fires last year.
We were able to work with people from Villa Independencia, Forestal Alto and Manuel Bustos, helping distribute food, over 7000 kgs, and supplies for the victims, and carpentry workshops to build tables and chairs to donate to these families. We worked together with Red de Alimentos, a chilean organization who makes alliances with supermarkets to buy food from the storages. Also along the Solidarity Organizations Community (Comunidad de Organizaciones Solidarias), through their program ‘Movidos x Chile’.
We were able to conduct workshops in shelters for play and emotional support, as well as volunteering to build tables and basic furniture for the families. The local company Geotecnia Ambiental and their team joined us for a full day to build tables for the affected families. We did a collective carpentry workshop day, managing to build 16 tables that were later donated to families at Villa Independencia.
Also collaborated on a project called “Mi barrio resiliente”, which would translate as “My resilient neighborhood” alongside the Pacto Social Foundation and the company Reviste. This project turned to the experience of the Ishinomaki earthquake and tsunami in 2011 looking for ways in which design could be of aid to people who had lost so much, as it happened in Viña del Mar after the fires at the beginning of 2024. We as Minga Foundation supported the work of reaching out and we took on the carpentry workshop where we were able to build a set of 4 stools for 50 families of Villa Independencia, who also received a drill to support the rebuilding process.
All of these experiences and support are only able to happen when people from everywhere organize to contribute, in their own territory and from other places. Organizations channelling help, conversations taking place and a will to build toghether a better place.
Viña del Mar is still in reconstruction, some people have been able to rebuild and other are still working on it, so if you still want to help there are other iniciatives you can support, that work more on long term relief.
We are closing this proyect to concentrate on the other work we have been doing in education and environment in local schools.
We hope you have a great day, week, month, year, life and thank you for your support.
