Project Report | Aug 8, 2025
Academic Tutors Congress

By Beatriz Gandara | Project Leader

Yes, it is true that many people perceive mathematics as difficult, and there are several reasons for this perception. Factors such as the abstraction of concepts, specialized language, and the need to follow logical steps can make mathematics challenging for some students. However, with practice, adequate support, and effective strategies, it is possible to overcome these difficulties.

We are very happy to share that this month the Mathematics Congress was held, where 40 Academic Tutors (Tac’s) from different communities with Reading Clubs participated. This congress was led by volunteer Carmen Ortiz (Spain).

The Tac’s received training in mathematics didactics with the objective of:

• Understanding how the scholarship recipients learn.

• Designing teaching strategies.

• Adapting teaching to the context of each community.

• Assessing the girls’ learning.

All of this with the approach of combining theory with practice, using engaging methods (games, projects) that are relevant to the real world. Above all, we aim for the Academic Tutors to offer individualized support to overcome math anxiety and build confidence. And all of this is possible thanks to your support.
